Hundreds came out to the Village at Leesburg Nov. 28 see Santa and witness the lighting of a five-story Christmas tree to signal the beginning of the holiday season. The tree has more than 10,000 bulbs that flash light shows during six musical performances a day.
“My Aunt told me about it and at first I didn’t know what it was, but I came out here and it was really fun,” 11-year-old Greer Bailey Hunter said. “The tree has been my favorite part.”
The event had a children’s play area, Clydesdales carried passengers for a carriage ride around the Village and there was a dance performance before the grand finale in which the Christmas tree was lit.
Mayor Kristen Umstattd was on hand, and she will also be at Leesburg’s annual Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting ceremony, which takes place Friday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. on the Town Green.
